Are you struggling to get the rabies vaccine during the shortage? You are not alone, there is currently a national shortage in the UK. However, despite the shortages we may be able to source some supplies for you on a case-by-case basis for the rabies vaccination.

What Is Rabies?
Rabies is a viral disease that can be prevented through vaccination. It is primarily transmitted by contact with the saliva of an infected wild or domestic animal, typically through a bite, scratch, or contact with an open wound, eyes, mouth, or nose (mucous membranes).
If left untreated, the infection carries a 100% fatality rate. Getting the vaccine is your absolute best chance of protection against the disease.
What If I’ve Already Started The Course Elsewhere
If you have started your course elsewhere and are unable to complete it at that practice due to the shortage, please do reach out to us and we can try to see if we can help.
What We May Suggest During a Shortage
Individuals who are travellers and face occupational risks but are unable to complete their vaccination schedule should be encouraged to get in touch with their Occupational Health team. This will allow for the consideration of any additional mitigation measures that may be necessary.
- Prioritise vaccine doses for those at the highest risk ie. Travellers going to endemic areas for extended periods of time, people in contact with animals ie. Vets and also young children.
- Delay the vaccination until stock availability

There is also currently a shortage of Japanese Encephalitis vaccine, and we can try to obtain this on a case-by-case basis too if required.
